Tom
and Julie Carr of Torrance, California, became the new owners of the Brumder Mansion
Bed and Breakfast in January, 2008. During
the summer of 2007, they came through Milwaukee on a business road trip with the
purpose of taking photos for their websites. On their second night in Milwaukee,
they stayed as guests at The Brumder Mansion Bed and Breakfast, then owned by
Innkeeper, Carol Hirschi. They fell in love with this 1910 Victorian Arts and
Crafts mansion, with not only its glorious decor, fabulous woodwork and design,
but also saw the possibilities of its ballroom theatre located in the basement!
With just some TLC and a little renovating, this licensed theatre could also be
used as a concert hall, sound studio or event center, because of its great acoustics.
So it isn't surprising that when Carol put this property and the 1920's home next
door up for sale, Tom and Julie took the plunge, and bought both structures, with
the goal of expanding their web-business to Milwaukee, as well as learning the
ropes of running a bed and breakfast & theatre/event center, in partnership with
a wonderful Innkeeper, Tonja Thomas. Carol
not only sold them the Brumder Mansion & the sister house, but also the Bed and
breakfast business located in the mansion itself. This means that she left most
of her antiques behind, though the Carrs have bought more antiques and made big
improvements in other aspects found in the mansion. While
they still have their home in California, the Carrs have begun staying for longer
periods in Milwaukee, finding it hard to leave their homes here! During
2009, the process of renovating the ballroom theatre area began. The chair risers
were removed, revealing a lovely wood flooring. As of August, 2009, the bathroom
was redone, wood flooring and new walls were added on the stage, faux painting
was accomplished on the walls and the boxes that were built around the working
pipes and heater. All the work that is planned will be done by October, and the
new concert theatre, and event center will be open to our guests and other interested
parties. Tom, Julie, and Tonja welcome
you to the Brumder Mansion, and hope you enjoy your stay with us! |
